Great skin does not have to come with a hefty price tag. We’re telling you some great DIY skin care hacks in case you’re thinking about selling your kidneys to get your hands on all those products said to make you look like a diva in 3 business days. Grab your apron (or not) because we’re about to raid your kitchen and turn it into a skincare lab.

Below are five amazing skincare hacks that use the most common kitchen ingredients that actually work for your skin. Remember, natural remedies take time to show results and results demand commitment. Now that we’ve got the motivational speech aside, let's get cooking… for your face!

1. Anti-Aging Cocoa Face Mask

We’re starting with a bit of decadence because why should chocolate be only reserved for your cheat day? This cocoa mask is rich in antioxidants, perfect for tackling wrinkles and smile lines. It tightens your skin a great deal if you remain consistent.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 egg white

How to Make It

Mix the ingredients until you see a creamy thick paste. It's that easy! Let it sit for a few minutes then apply it to your face. Once the mask dries and you start feeling like it’s pulling your skin, it's time to rinse it off with lukewarm water. Sour cream works like a gentle exfoliator while honey hydrates your skin. Egg white works like a natural skin tightener and cocoa just smells so nice!

2. Nourishing Milk Hand Soak: Because Hands Deserve TLC Too!

Hands are the most underappreciated parts of our bodies—quite literally. How about showing them some love and getting rid of that hyperpigmented knuckles? A simple yet luxurious milk soak is your solution.

What You’ll Need:

  • 2 to 3 cups whole milk (enough to submerge both hands)

How to Make It

Heat the milk enough in the microwave until its warm enough to touch. Do not start boiling it on the stove. We’ve had a lot of accidents already. Pour the warm milk into a bowl and soak your hands for 5-10 minutes. The fat and vitamins in the milk (hello, A and E!) will do all the hard work to soften and nourish your hands. Its like a spa but for free. You might as well act like a princess while you do this for maximum effects.

3. Green Tea Skin Serum:

Has anyone ever thought of making a serum out of leftover green tea? Well, we have! Repurpose it instead of draining it down the sink. Green tea is loaded with antioxidants that work wonders for oily and dry skin. It reduces acne and forces your pores to behave.

What You’ll Need:

  • Leftover green tea with leaves
  • Olive oil
  • Grapeseed oil
  • Essential oil of your choice

How to Make It:

Pour the leftover green tea with its leaves into a jar and add enough olive oil to soak them. Let it sit for a month. We know it takes longer than expected but it's worth the results. After a month, shake the jar and strain the oil leaving the leaves behind.

Store the oil in a safe bottle and add a teaspoon of grapeseed oil and five drops of your favorite essential oil. We recommend tea tree or lavender essential oil. Shake it well and voilà—your very own skin serum. Apply it before bedtime to detox and hydrate your skin overnight.

Did You Know?

Green tea is said to contain more antioxidants than broccoli! Who knew a superfood for your skin could be found in a humble cup of tea!?

4. DIY Sugar Wax

Getting rid of body hair is such a heavy job. Even melting wax beans sounds quite draining. Well, you have something sitting in your kitchen cabinet that could be used and reused to banish body hair. Sugar waxing might be sticky, but it’s certainly worth it.

What You’ll Need:

  • Sugar
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Water
  • (Optional) Tea tree oil for an antibacterial kick

How to Make It

Combine sugar, apple cider vinegar, and water in a saucepan. Heat until the mixture reaches a thick consistency and the sugar melts completely.  Let it cool down enough, so it doesn't burn your skin.

Apply to your skin and pull in the opposite direction of hair growth. Bonus: adding tea tree oil keeps your skin blemish-free. You'll wonder why you ever bothered with razors.

5. Rosemary Oil for Hair Growth

The skin on your scalp also needs to be looked after. No wonder why some of us are losing hair like we lose one sock from a pair. There is an easy method to make your own rosemary oil if you want long, luscious hair. You specially need it if you get into cat fights often. Get that hair envy in a jar!

What You’ll Need:

  • ½ cup dried rosemary leaves
  • 1 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • A glass jar with a lid

How to Make It:

Add dried rosemary leaves to the glass jar and pour oil until the leaves are submerged completely. Seal it tightly and let it sit in a sunny spot for 15-30 days. Give it a good shake and strain the oil. Your rosemary oil is ready to go!

Note: If you have an especially oily scalp, you can make a rosemary spray with just water and rosemary leaves. Follow the same steps.
